Born in West Yorkshire in 1980, Richard Knox is an artist and musician living and working in Glossop, Derbyshire.
His artistic practice focuses predominantly on analogue collage and abstract monoprinting, often combining the two, using an instinctive, expressive mixed-media approach. Additional analogue type treatment, screen printing, photography and digital collaging build works that are developed into gig posters, record sleeves and art prints.
Knox’s primary musical outlet is A-Sun Amissa. A group in a permanent state of metamorphosis, existing on the fringes of some kind of avant-drone-rock, relentlessly pushing forward, shapeshifting and presenting their unique noise in new ways and on their own terms. A sound underpinned and overlaid with deep drones, moving in and around a diverse chasm of noise and experimental ambient sounds.
Led by Knox since 2011, A-Sun Amissa have a fiercely DIY approach to music that takes in recording, tour booking, artwork and putting out their own records via Richard’s Gizeh label that has been in operation since 2004. Notoriously prolific, the group have a deep catalogue of music, much of it released with hand-made packaging. Live performances are coupled with dual screen visuals and can unfurl in many forms, from playing albums in full, dismantling old material in new directions or often playing fully improvised unique shows.
