DRONE ORACLE / LIVE IN CAMBRIDGE
Throughout A-Sun Amissa's existence it's forever been the case that traditional methods of working don't really ever come into the equation. Such an approach continues here as the band were invited to perform at ATG festival in 2024. Whilst most artists would pull out the big hitters for a festival crowd, A-Sun Amissa decided to write and perform a new 30 minute brooding and heaving piece of drone music, aptly titled 'Drone Oracle'.
Written and recorded over a few weeks at the bands home studio in Glossop, 'Drone Oracle' unites a host of the various strands of sound that A-Sun Amissa have developed over it's now 14 year existence. Creeping ambient movements, coupled with choral and electronic elements eventually give way to a crushing, spaced-out dual-guitar dirge that's complimented perfectly with some blissful, blown-out free jazz clarinet.
After years of intentional line-up changes, on record and on the road, this current cast of mainstay Richard Knox, with Claire Knox and Luke Bhatia is delving into new paths of discovery like never before, set on a continual drive to free themselves from pigeon-holes and do things their own way.
This piece of music was originally written and recorded exclusively for ArcTanGent Festival in 2024. We performed the whole thing live at the festival. Since August 2024 this piece has only been available to Bandcamp subscribers and ATG festival goers (via a postcard given out at the festival). We decided after a year it was time to make it more widely available, with new artwork and also commit it to a limited CDr self-release of 100 copies. (RK).
